I plant in 3, 4 and 5 gallon pots because of tree roots. I let the grass grow to protect the pots from heat. I first noticed stink bugs on my tomatoes and held a Tuna can with a little oily liquid under them and they would just fall in and die. After the tomatoes set and started getting hot weather, I use the water hose to knock them off several times a day. Today, June 20, I only saw one stink bug after having knocked them off for almost a week. I strongly spray the fruit several times a day just in case. I will keep doing this until it looks like I will have a good crop of tomatoes in 30 or so pots. I like the posts because I can water and fertilize them better. I am 83 years young and have about 50 pots of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. The squash and zuchini are finished. A good year to say the least. I empty the pots, knock them down to 4 inches, spray them with water and cover them with plastic to sterilize the soil for reuse in the greenhouse this fall. JJ in Mauriceville.
